नारी, तुम्हें कई नामों से 

पुकारते है लोग 

देवी , त्यागमयी , पतिव्रता , धैर्यवती 

सुनने मे अच्छालगता है 

पर यह सब एक साथ बनने की 

कोशिश मे,  मिट जाओगे तुम !  

अब समय आ गया है 

तुम्हें सिर्फ एक सामान्य 

मनुष्य स्त्री का दर्जा पाने का 

दो आँखें , दो हाथ , 

दो पैर एक मुँह वाली  

जो दूसरों की अपेक्षाओं से मुक्त हो  

जो दूसरों के ख्याल रखते रखते 

अपनी भी ख्याल रख सके 

जो अपराध बोध,  बिना 

अपने लिए भी वक़्त निकाल सके ...   

English Translation  

Woman

Oh woman , you are called by many names 

Devi (Goddess), epitome of sacrifice, loyalty, patience.... 

sounds good to hear such praise 

yet, trying to be all this simultaneously

could exhaust,  ruin you   

Time  is long overdue  for you to claim 

the status of an average  living , breathing human being 

with two eyes, two hands

two legs and one mouth 

who is free from the burden 

of the expectations of all and sundry   

Yes, an average she human, 

who while taking care of others

has time to take care of herself too 

who can find space  for herself 

without feelings of guilt or inadequacy..
