waiting for the Messiah

The India poetry circle's WhatsApp group  gave a challenge to its members to write a drabble every day for a week starting January 4th 2026. A drabble is a 100 word story with a beginning, middle and end. However, being a  first attempt the word limit was fixed as anywhere between 100 to 200 words.

Lalitha was shocked to see her husband chasing her young adult son, a rod in hand and gesticulating  wildly. She ran after them but couldn’t catch up as they turned the bend of their lane.

When her husband Raghav returned exhausted, she looked at him askingly.

“It is 5 years since the fellow passed out! He hardly makes any effort to find jobs. If he can’t find them in his line, he should be looking at other alternatives to earn a living. But no, the fellow is daydreaming of a messiah who will appear from nowhere to help him- some political leader, a friend, a teacher or relative who will miraculously place him in a handsome job!  (117 words)
