The India poetry circle's WhatsApp group set a challenge to its members to write in 200 words on specific prompts for each day for a week from 18th January to 24th January 2026.
For 18th January the prompt is to write on Dostoyevsky's quote "To go wrong in one's own way is better than to go right in someone else's "
Ramesh took stock of his life. He was fifty. Some would call him a failure. His father. as were the aspirations of parents of that period, wanted him to do either medicine or engineering. But he had been bitten by the acting bug long ago even when he was in school. He had waited till completion of basic graduation to run away for formal training to the National School of Drama, New Delhi and then tested the streets of the then Bombay.
Even as they struggled, some classmates made it big in Hindi movie industry, some gave up half way and joined Government or Public sector companies. He chose to hold on and today can lay claim to lot of theatre and few minor film roles. Perhaps, he can be called a failure in some ways but Ramesh enjoyed the present as he performed on stage or worked on those minor roles. "I would rather be happy doing what matter to me than be 'successful' by someone else's criteria" had always been his philosophy of life. He still has no regrets.
