Underestimating the power of the Common man

It’s foolish for diehard fans
of film stars and politicians to expect
that the average citizen will support
the commissions and omissions
of their ‘heroes' at any cost
no matter what…

So the common man who applauds
a film star’s bravado on the screen
may not be thrilled by his stunts
when public roads are  used as playgrounds
in real life…

Similarly, politicians cheered
for ‘development’ or ‘secularism’
may not win claps of the common folk
when they attempt  white washing brains
for control and dancing to their bidding

Diehard fans may have
a one track mind
which they may hold unto death
but, hey it’s foolish to expect
everyone else  to worship ‘your idol’
no matter what!

The Irony of it All

Politicians encouraged
and cultivated campus politics
carved out young 'leaders'
similar to them
in their very  own mold
steeped in arrogance and  what else ?
now, the very students are demonised
as anti nationals and traitors!

The irony of it all...

Miss You

Miss you, little one
can't believe it's the same me
never exposed to pets in childhood
with my mother wary & fearful of animals..

After so many years, you 'Vava'
and 'Kuttu', your brother
joined our family of four
even then, initially I was distant
took time to  warm up to the two of you

Before I knew it, I was getting
more and more attached
though you , unlike brother
was always reluctant  to the idea
of being petted or fondled

Thought your brother
to be  more loving
and felt closer to him
yet now that you
are no more
the heart aches
much more than
I would have ever thought...

It's heart breaking to see
your brother move
from room to room
'meo' ing  sadly in search of you
miss you little one
our family of five grieves for you...

PS: Few days back, of the brother sister pair of cats, 'Kuttu "and "Vava", the sister ran out of our flat and was found later under the wheels of an automobile.

Captivating Lines from Here and There- 7

  • All too often we forget that freedom to fail and try again is the essence of liberation- Tom Peters, Management author
  • Power over others is weakness disguised as strength.True power is within and it is available to you now - "Power of Now" book  by Eckhart Tolle
  • Many an idea get lost with the wind of time simply because it was against company policy.
  • Don't just make, be flexible enough to break your "To Do"list. Learn to say 'No' when resources are limited.
  • Increase your creative interaction with your customers- Hidden in their needs are the seeds for your ideas.
  • I have a  "No Try"rule in my house and with everyone I interact with- Either do or not do.
  • Although you are  an employee, develop instincts of an entrepreneur- By this quality alone you will stand out in a crowd.
  • A learning culture can only be developed from the top of the organization. If supervisors are themselves afraid of being punished for mistakes, if they fear giving their boss bad news, if their roles are unclear and they are confused about the organizational purpose, then their ability to develop team work will be crippled.
  • Develop your skills of quickly evaluating ideas and providing feedback.Creative subordinates can be a very impatient bunch.
  • Age is in your mind more than anywhere else.If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Swagger

Don't like the swagger, even in film stars
like it even less when  seen in politicians
yet  no choice but to tone down
one's  likes and dislikes
in times when politics is no longer service
It's something else!

LOA Series- 6 Three Steps Forward and Five Steps Backward

Natural momentum
of thought is hindered
when not thinking
 of what you desire

Or when soon  after the thoughts
of what you want
you immediately think
about the lack of it

Contradictory statements
slow down constantly,
the momentum of thought....

Air Lift- Movie Review

The Iraq Kuwait war in 1990
was started by saddam for economic reasons
perhaps also for personal aggrandisement...

Yet this one step changed
the lives of ordinary Kuwaiti citizens
including that of Indian origin
 forever…

A crisis brings out the best
and worst in man
so the protagonist, a businessman of Indian origin
who till then understood only the language of money
and was willing to be ruthless for money
even to long-time friends
understood, learnt the meaning of compassion.

His world grew from immediate family
to those who worked for him
then to everyone of Indian origin
who came for help to his doorstep
Finally, he even included for the rescue
a hapless Kuwaiti woman and child
risking the security of everyone else
yes, the fellow feeling for humanity
triumphed over all else...

The rescue mission, a real life happening
Involved tense moments of
many a slip between the cup and the lip
apathetic minister, admin in Delhi
and at the embassy in Kuwait
who had their own priorities
and couldn’t care less.

Yet the final triumph
was made possible
by the odd good hearted bureaucrats as well
who supported the protagonist and friends
to the last, till the very end…

‘Airlift’ soars high in the air
and lifts the spirits of the audience
great job by the cast- akshay, Nimrat kaur, prakash Belawadi, Lena
and crew- Priya Seth (Camera), Hemanth Sarkar( Editing)
of this gripping film
taut, precise with never
a dull moment…

This is perhaps the best
performance of Akshay Kumar
who has also worn
the producer’s hat
for this wonderful movie
with sure touch direction
of Raja Krishna Menon!         .

PS: The 1990 airlift of Indians from Kuwait was carried out from 13 August to 20 October 1990 after the Invasion of Kuwait. Air India holds the Guinness Book of World Records] for the most people evacuated i.e. 170,000 people by a civil airliner as a result of this effort in which 500 were sent through a ship. The operation was carried out during the Persian Gulf War in 1990 to evacuate Indian expatriates from Kuwait. It is believed to be the largest civilian evacuation in history The Indians based in Kuwait also helped in the evacuation efforts.
