In a college hostel for girls
discussion was on as to the 'ideal mate'
different expectations were shared
looks, strength, loving nature....
Then spoke a girl who
instead of sharing expectations said
" One day, I will have mine
a partner to marry and love
and then I will love him so much
so much, as to suffocate him with love
totally helpless, totally dependent on me
eating out of my hand...."
It's when love is confused with other needs
that you deny space, not give room to your mate
to breathe on his/her own...
before long, the partners becomes so stifled
that the courageous say good bye...
As for the others, they are destined to be puppies
on a leash for life...

ReplyDeleteSmothering is surely not love, but possession! (Is this your "I" contribution?) YAM xx
I=Introspection
...silly me - realised I'd already seen the "I"!!! Yxx
DeleteYes, this is not part of the challenge. This was written for a poetry meet we recently had on Sunday, 10th April. Thank you for responding.
ReplyDeleteLove has many shades. Shadeless love is rare.

ReplyDeleteAn ideal pair

An ideal, real, honest, and good
the reference for the mate is understood
Is it a compulsion?
or real confusion
One may have the picture in the mind
and try to find
a match that proves his expectation
and enters the relation
whether it is an arranged one
or entered by anyone
all speculations come to an end
love's prominence remains an apparent trend
Love is a refuge
that has never been refused
The mind settles and the heart responds
both swim in a blue water pond
either of the two remains loyal
their commitment and sentiments represent loyalty
so long they function within the scope of humanity
there is a grace of an almighty
"Ideal mate" is a real dream of a human being
they try to bring
the harmonious atmosphere
and act as an ideal pair
